BWI fast approaching halfway mark

South Africa's 78 Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI) members and champions have now committed more than 45 000ha to conservation on private land, Inge Kotze from the BWI office announced this week. This equates to 45% of the current 100 000ha-sized national vineyard.

Also announced was the imminence of a BWI sticker for members to display on their wine bottles, currently being discussed with the Wine & Spirit Board.

Says Ms Kotze: "The sticker will make it possible for wine consumers to identify BWI members and the application thereof will be entirely voluntary. The term 'nature-friendly' will also appear on the sticker, as many consumers will not be familiar with the acronym, BWI."
