Wellington

The Limietberg Nature Reserve and Hiking Trails with some 102 000 ha of fynbos-covered mountain slopes, challenging cliffs and indigenous river valleys are part of the Wellington Wine Route. Small antelope, baboon and the occasional caracal and leopard can be seen in the area. You may also be lucky enough to spot endemic birds such as the Cape sugarbird and the protea canary, as well as the majestic black eagle.

Many of Wellington's wine farms lie at the foot of the Limietberg and a few of them border the state-protected land. The majority of these wine farms are actively involved in the conservation of our natural habitats.

They have:
- Reduced and potentially eliminated alien vegetation and left the land to revert to indigenous vegetation.
- Demarcated areas of high conservation value and decided not to develop them.
- Reduced environmentally destructive chemical input.

How to enjoy our natural heritage:
- 5 hiking trails in Limietberg Nature Reserve
- Swimming in the rock pools at Kromrivier
- Fishing (permit required)
- Camping and picnics at Tweede Tol
- Bird watching
- Mountain bike trail
- Drive along Bainskloof Pass to view the beautiful fauna and flora
- 3-day wine walk through the Wellington farms.
- 3-hour to 3-day horseback trail through the Wellington farms
